Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles which can relieve the symptoms of some physical and psychological conditions, and may encourage the body to heal and repair itself.
Acupuncture stimulates the nerves in the skin and muscle. It can increase the body’s release of the natural painkillers (endorphins and serotonin) into the pain pathways in the spinal cord and brain, and modifies the way pain signals are received. It has been shown to have relaxing effects by lowering blood pressure and heart rate, as well as aiding tissue regeneration.
Research shows that acupuncture can affect many of the body’s systems: nervous system, muscle tone, hormonal release, circulation, digestion and reproductive systems.
Every patient has an individual tailored treatment; needles are inserted in the skin and left in position anywhere from 2-15 minutes. Treatment is often once a week to begin and then spaced out to longer intervals until the problem responds, typically this can last 5-8 treatments.
Conditions commonly treated include:
– Back and Neck pain
– Stress related problems
– Pain relief from a wide range of musculo-skeletal pain e.g. back and neck.
– Frozen Shoulder
– Tennis Elbow
– Functional bowel problems such as IBS
– Menstrual pain
– Sinus problems
