Louise Barlow

Louise graduated from the University of Gloucestershire with a Master’s degree in Sports Therapy and is a member of the Society of Sports Therapy (SST).

Louise is an empathetic, passionate Sports Therapist who focuses on creating individualised treatment plans for patients who have sustained an injury or are in chronic pain. She approaches treatment looking at the body as a whole instead of just treating the area of pain and considers the multiple factors that can be influencing pain / discomfort.

In addition to working at Lower Earley Osteopaths Louise works with a ladies rugby team providing treatment on training nights and pitch side treatment on game days. She also teaches on Sports Massage therapy courses.

Louise also holds a level 4 qualification in Sports Massage Therapy and a qualification in dry needling.

My interest in the body and injuries started when I got a knee injury which stopped me doing the exercise I wanted, and I wanted to understand more about the body and what I could have done to prevent the injury and how the rehabilitation helped the injury. I enrolled on a level 3 sports massage therapy course, closely followed by the level 4 sports massage therapy course and decided I wanted to become a Sports Therapist so successfully enrolled on the MSc Sports Therapy course at the Uni of Gloucestershire.

I find the body fascinating and how one area of the body can cause limitations or overload in another area. I really enjoy getting to know each patient and helping them understand the reasons for their pain / injury and how together we can work to get you back to what you want to be doing. Whilst massage has been key in my career, I also really enjoy the rehabilitation aspect of treatment and how challenging our movement patterns can make huge benefits in reducing pain and building confidence in your body.

Outside of work I enjoy lifting weights at the gym along with HIIT workouts, and have recently taken up dancing again. I enjoy being out and about, completing obstacle course races and looking forward to completing my new triathlon. I enjoy travelling and getting to explore new places and I like most sports – rugby, F1, triathlon and athletics are among my favourites.
